The Dead Sea Land is hosting many events, festivals and large performances which attract many tourists and visitors.
Within the development of the Dead Sea Valley Tourism Complex and in order to enrich the overall vacation experience at the Dead Sea Land, the leisure, sports and cultural events will be expanded.

Masada Opera Festival

Masada Opera Festival

The Masada Opera Festival is one of the most expensive and elaborate productions in Israel. As part of this event, the Israeli Opera presents selected creations in a unique and spectacular location – a huge stage erected especially for the occasion in the midst of a wild desert landscape at the foot of the Masada Mountain. Hundreds of participants and renowned soloists from around the world take part in the performance. Each opera is performed a limited number of times, which makes the experience particularly special.

Feast of Epiphany

Every year on January 18th, thousands of Orthodox pilgrims flock to the holy site on the Jordan River known as Qasr el Yahud. This is the baptism site, where, according to Christian belief, John the Baptist baptized Jesus about two thousand years ago. On other days of the year, the site facilitates baptism ceremonies for believers from all over the world. On the day of the Epiphany crowds gather into a colorful procession, wearing a variety of costumes while singing, playing musical instruments and dancing, ending the procession with celebrations and ceremonies.

Desert Challenge

The Veridis Desert Challenge Festival is the largest and oldest nature sports festival in Israel. This is an entire weekend of sports activities for enthusiasts of all ages and levels. As part of the festival’s challenges, a number of mountain biking heats and competitive night runs are held for adults, youth and children, as well as riding trips for families and a mountain bike marathon with four heats. In addition, there is also the Spy Ultimate Challenge – an endurance competition, which combines two segments of mountain biking and one night running segment. This competition takes place in the midst of the unique desert landscapes and conditions, and offers three levels of difficulty and distance, designed for especially tough athletes. The event is held in the heart of the desert, at the Zohar stream basin, near the Dead Sea.

The racerunners arrive from all over the world and enjoy the unique views of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. The race takes place along Route 90 in several categories: 30 km, 21 km (a half marathon), 10 km and 2 km route for children and youth. The event also includes Israel’s largest walking competition of 10 km.

A challenging international road cycling event that has been taking place since 2012, inspired by the classic group cycling events held in Italy in the 1970s. This cycling event attracts thousands of participants from Israel and abroad, lasts three days and consists of a number of heats in several categories. It includes a challenging competitive distance event of 155 km that passes through the scenic vistas of the lowest place on earth.

An annual musical celebration for the whole family that has taken place during the week of Sukkot every year since 1999, by the initiative of the Tamar regional council. The festival includes four days of touring the scenery and sites of the Dead Sea and a wide range of musical performances – some free of charge – by Israeli singers and groups. The shows take place in “nature’s theaters” – on the grass under the baobab trees in Kibbutz Ein Gedi, in the Kikar Sdom towns, at the Masada Fortress complex, and sunrise performances on top of the Masada mountain. Tens of thousands of people, including thousands of tourists, come to watch the various shows. The upcoming festival will be held on 25-28/9/2018.
